------------------------------------------------------------ Charter for the Japan Chapter of the Internet Society July 1994 (1) Purpose The Japan Chapter of the Internet Society (ISOC) is organized and operates exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes, consistent with the charter of the Internet Society. The purpose of the Japan Chapter is to promote ISOC (Internet Society) activities in Japan, to organize face-to-face meetings in Japanese, to offer communications in Japanese including on-line documents in Japanese and to encourage R&D works to be presented to IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). The official language of the Japan Chapter is Japanese. The Japan Chapter is distinct from the Internet Society operating under its auspices, but having separate officers and activities. (2) Scope of activities The Japan Chapter (ISOC-JC) shall conduct all activities in accordance with ISOC Chapter Policies (ISOC Document:94-224) and the "Guidelines to establish a Chapter of ISOC (June 1994). The Chapter may use the ISOC names (ie. "Internet Society" and "ISOC") and associated logos and service marks in its name and in connection with its activities only in accordance with written Guidelines established by ISOC and provided to the Chapter. The Chapter recognizes that chapter policies and guidelines many change from time to time and commits to fulfilling these and future policies and guidelines. The Chapter understands that if it is unable to satisfy chapter policies and guidelines or is unwilling to do so, ISOC may immediately, on written notice, revoke the charter of the Chapter and the Chapter must immediately cease any claim of association with the Internet Society and cease using the name of the Internet Society, ISOC and its logos and service marks. (3) Activities The Chapter will hold an annual general meeting. The Chapter may establish Japanese language SIGs (Special Interest Groups) and working groups as the need arises. (4) Membership and dues There are two categories in the Chapter membership. A regular member is an ISOC member residing in Japan who elects to join the Chapter. ISOC members living overseas can also join the Chapter as regular members. Another category is an associate member who is not a member of ISOC. No dues are required to join the Chapter. (5) Officers and the offices The officers consists of a chair, deputy chairs and a group of organizers. They are elected at an annual meeting of all the Chapter members for the term of 2 years.
